Offensive?

I have a friend we are both Mexican. For some reason he’s always calling me out on how “white-washed” I am. Literally unprovoked all the time. I told him I don’t like avocado and he said that doesn’t make me Mexican at all. Okay i guess it was a joke, but lately it’s been getting worse. I told him that I was craving a turkey sandwich and he says “that’s just so white of you. Why don’t you ever crave tacos?” I do sometimes but just not at the moment how does that make me less mexican? I told him this bothers  me because I am prideful in being Mexican American. So today I texted him merry Christmas. (We celebrate Christmas today noche buena) and he told me I wasn’t allowed to say that. I was too American and I should wait until tomorrow to start telling people merry Christmas. I told him really? You can’t tell me what I can and cannot do, all I was doing was wishing you and your family happy holidays. He told me that I needed to stop acting like I was born en el rancho (the ranch) and act like the white privilege. d little girl i was. Excuse me? My both parents are Mexican 100%, I do not or ever have experienced white privilege. I told my other friend exactly how he was acting and they said “he has a point, you were born here (America). Am I wrong to be offended? I know I am American but I have Mexican roots and was brought up in a Mexican house hold. That doesn’t take anything away from me and my culture.

That’s super annoying. If you grow up here you are obviously allowed to like or dislike whatever you want. This probably speaks to some insecurity of their own that they are projecting on you. I am a Jewish American but I am actually agnostic. I don’t have problems with being called not Jewish enough

Also I've never experienced this "white privilege" EVER. I've been judged, discriminated by cops and people. Its just rude to assume all white people have it easy. If youre poor you're screwed. If you have money then you are privileged. I'm not trying to offend anyone but I'm tired of no one giving a shit about offending me so.

Kinda pisses me off when others say that shit. Like I'm tired of it NOT being racist cuz you're talking about "white people". Nah its racist and I get offended. Be the same thing as me saying that's so Mexican of you or that's so black of you. Its the SAME thing. I understand light hearted jokes but honestly I'm just sick and tired of the double standards. Talk about your heritage all you want with respect. But he seems like he's making fun of "white people". We are ALL human beings with emotions and feelings. Character not color ❤.

That’s not a friend and everything you said, doesn’t has to be if you are Mexican or not. I would feel pretty uncomfortable hanging around with him and I would prefer to keep my distance.

Don’t bother with people like that. My best friends boyfriend constantly tells me I’m not Mexican because I’m half white. He says I can’t even say anything about Mexico (I spent every summer there with family) because I’m half white. He called me a racial slur and he’s just rude. My advice? Don’t bother with them. They’re not worth the frustration.

I can see both sides.
He's definitely being offensive. He's also trying to make a point, though he's really bad at making it.
If I was in your shoes I'd definitely be like "lol wtf?" because he's trying to diminish who you are in connection to what he percieves as his culture. In his eyes, you're white and not latinx.
The point he's trying to make is that you have American privilege -- and if you're a tad fairer skinned, you have white-passing privilege. Meanwhile, I assume he's either first born American or immigrated to the U.S. -- which would statistically give him less opportunity and privilege than someone who was born here and white-passing. If he's also more tan this gives him less privilege than someone who comes from the same culture that can pass as white. 
This comes down to systemic insecurity. He perceives you as someone who has more privilege than himself and that bothers him. Which is fair, but its not fair to you.
The fact that it bothers you that he does this is important as well. You shouldn't be diminished and outcasted from your culture just because of how he percieves you -- that's effed up. 
I think, overall, if you wanted to try keeping him as a friend you could talk about systemic issues and listen to where he's coming from. But he comes off as pretty toxic, honestly. Something doesn't sit right where he's literally trying to force you to be white in his eyes. That's... pretty strange. I don't know how young y'all are -- but systemic issues aren't something to point a finger at an individual. They're things we all need to work together, acknowledge and fight injustice. His fight seems displaced and accusatory. Hopefully he grows out of it and sees the bigger picture instead of making enemies.
