What age?

Question

At what age can your toddler safely sleep in a king size bed that is about 3’ high? I don’t want any negative comments. Just a FTM trying to find out when my baby can safely sleep in my bed. Like when do they understand they can fall off. She would be sleeping in between my husband and I. But I want to be extra precautious. When do baby’s know how to get out of a bed correctly?

My question is if your baby isn’t currently sleeping in bed with you why would you want to start that habit??

My kids have been in my bed since birth.... they switch back and forth to their own lol. They’re 4 and 1 now 🤷🏻‍♀️

My son has known how to climb in and out of my bed since about 10 months old he will just slid backwards will he feels the edge then slowly lower himself. He’s a pro now and he’s slept with me since about 5 months old

My husband and I are very adamant that he never wanted our son in our bed. I've seen way too many parents trying to break the habit once it's started (not to mention me being afraid of SIDS). However, as much as my son sleeps amazing at home in his crib he struggles when we travel and always seems to end up in our bed, and as a result I get zero sleep because I'm too worried about it. It sounds like you don't currently bed share, so I personally wouldn't start.
That being said, I think it really depends on the kid on if they understand. My son can get off the couch properly by laying on his belly and sliding off, and seems to understand that's what he should do on bed (like if we are playing around on the bed which he loves to do). Our bed is kinda high though so I don't let him. However, I have zero confidence that he has any awareness of it when he's asleep. He moves a lot in his sleep and if there wasn't a barrier I know he would roll right off, as I've seen him almost do a couple times when he's been napping in odd locations like a couch or bed if we're traveling (at home he only naps in his crib).

I have mixed feelings on this.  I really feel like it depends on the kid.  Like my son was sleeping in our bed at 6 months (I know, horrible, but whatever) and he was fine.  My daughter on the other hand, we can’t have her in the bed, even if she’s in between my husband and I.  She wakes up, and starts bouncing and jumping all over the place, so she would definitely fall out.  So it really depends on the baby.

Yeah I wouldn’t start now if you haven’t. Let them sleep in their own bed so you don’t get kicked all night. We put a mattress in the floor at 15 months with my daughter. She fell out twice maybe and then she learned. After about 3wks we put her in her own queen bed and she’s been in it ever since!

It took my daughter a couple of days of practicing with her how to get off the sofa, stairs, bed etc the right way. She doesn’t understand heights though, she’ll try to slide off her changing pillow which is way too high the same way.
I also still wouldn’t leave her unattended especially when sleeping. She moves loads in her sleep and she wouldn’t notice the edge. I know of a lot of parents that co-sleep though, I think they use pillows or some kind of buffer until they get into bed.
