Is Isla too popular?

I just looked at it's popularity and it said it's up 40+ from 2020 and is #5 for 2021😳! I've liked this name for over a decade and I don't know one Isla. Now I am pregnant and bc of the surge in popularity, I'm not sure about it. Any thoughts?

Who cares if it's popular. It's a name you love and have loved for a long time. In elementary school there were 4 Michaels in my class alone plus I have a brother Michael. Now that we're all out in the world it's not nearly as important or seem as common.

I believe it’s number 57 in the US, but that data is from 2019. 2020 data on name popularity won’t come out until May. If you look at the website, it does look like it’s been jumping 20-30 spots in popularity, in the last 4 years. I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if it does eventually make it to the top 10 in the US, in the next three or so years. It’s a very loved name in many countries.

I’m having a baby girl in April and we are naming her Isla. I have been a teacher for 8 years and have never seen a student with that name. (I teach about 250 students a year) I didn’t think it was that popular...just a beautiful name ❤️

This screen shot is from baby center. Their stats are based on their website alone, not all the actual babies born this year. However, the name is pretty popular and trendy right now.

The data you screenshot isn’t anything to do with how many babies receive a name. It’s just how many page visits the name gets on the baby center site. Almost meaningless.
If you want to know a name’s popularity, you have to look up its actual population statistics for your country. If you live in the US, go to the social security name page, and they have lots of tools for looking up name popularity for certain names over time, or for looking up the top 100 names in your specific state.
Their data is from 2019, as it should be, because 2020 hasn’t been over long enough to have analyzed an entire country’s worth of birth records. Anywhere that talks about 2020 or 2021 name popularity is either lying, guessing, or talking about something other than named humans.
