why do my roots start smelling bad fast?

hi! so i’m 14 years old and still going through puberty. i’ve noticed these pasts two maybe three months that my hair starts smelling foul quickly. after showering (sometimes i shampoo twice and i always condition once), i put braids in every night so the next day my hair will be wavy. an hour or two after the braids i notice that the roots of my hair always begin to have an odor. the next day it begins to get worse and by the end, it makes me smell bad. long story short, my hair (roots specifically), have a bad odor after a short period of time. my hair is also very thick but i haven’t had much time for a haircut. after the showers i also notice that my hair doesn’t smell like the shampoo or anything i used. i’m a bit embarrassed, but can anyone suggest any hair products like masks or things that can benefit the smell of my roots? please help because i’m starting to shower every day and i know it’s not healthy for my hair !

If you’re putting it in braids directly after the shower that might be why. Especially with thick hair you need to let it dry a little first (or use a hair dryer on it once you have braids in) your hair could be growing mold in there. Personally idk if I ever notice my hair smelling like shampoo but my hair doesn’t agree with very fragrances products. It does always smell fresh and clean though. I use Wella shampoo and conditioner

Wash your hair twice a week rather than everyday, and let it dry before putting it into braids. If you can, wash your hair in the morning rather than at night before bed so you’re giving your hair more time to dry naturally. 
Between washes, use dry shampoo. You’ll need to use it less as you produce less oil between washes, but it’s a handy thing to use while you’re getting used to not washing your hair every day. You can also get nice smelling ones that might help with the odour.

prob not much help, but maui moisture shampoo smells delicious. Also, any natural shampoos/products (without silicones, parabens, etc) are amazing for your hair and smell great. They’re usually targeted towards poc/curly haired women but don’t shy away from them if you’re white or have straight hair! They have amazing properties nonetheless :)

Use tea tree oil shampoo.  Only use shampoo on your roots/scalp.  Only use conditioner on your ends.  Don’t use products in your hair, unless it’s only on the ends.

Herbel essence hair shampoo and conditioner,  a bit pricey but worth it , i would also recommend blow drying your hair after you put them in braids, bc you have thick hair and its not getting aired out it could be causing mold to grow. But doing tbis should take care of the problem and give you even better waves. Just make sure to hit it with some cold air at the end to set the waves.

It’s possible you’re over washing your hair and your body is over producing oils to make up for it. 
It turned out to be the cause of my over oily hair. 
Try reduce your washes to once a week (maybe twice a week while you get into the swing of it).
Run some leave in conditioner or a light coat of Argan oil overnight after you wash it.
