Lockdown Ver. 3.0
Sorry to bring ANOTHER COVID post to the table but since our Prime Minister in the UK has sunk us into yet another lockdown, I wanted to get some thoughts from other people from the UK, but also those from other countries who have experienced different measures to the ones in place here.
I want to know if you think these measures put in place by the government are going to be effective, whether or not you think they’re handling it well given the circumstances or if you think they have dropped the ball?
Do you think that this is the last national lockdown we’ll experience, or do you think we have more to come?
Why do you think we aren’t getting a grip of the infection rates? Do you place the blame on the public or the government, or both?
If you were in charge, would you do anything differently?
I personally can see more lockdowns later on in the year. I think the government lifted the first lockdown way too early last year, and sent schools and universities back when he should have kept them shut till October/November. They also should never have given the green light for 5 days of mixing over Christmas, before pulling a U-turn days before hand, only agreeing to mixing on Christmas day. The new strain has now spread right across the UK after they failed to contain it. Transport out of London was packed once they announced London was to be placed into Tier 4 days before Christmas.
Not only this, but the vaccine role out is going to take time. The Liverpool City Region, where I live, covers Liverpool City Centre and surrounding boroughs, with a population of 1.5 million. The borough in which I live has a population of more than 250 000 people, but only 2000 vaccines have been delivered so far and only in selected areas. It’s extremely unlikely that we’ll see a great number of people vaccinated before Spring, and a lockdown that only lasts 5/6 weeks is unlikely to bring the numbers down for long enough.
