Autism and eating.
I’m not sure where to post this but I am in desperate need of help. 2 months ago my 3 year old was diagnosed with Autism- high functioning. She was a great eater as an infant and young toddler when we started solids. This past year has been an absolute nightmare. Now with her diagnosis we have an understand as to why.
So, we got her on a schedule and her eating got better - will only eat selective foods though. However, she ate 2-3 meals every single day in December.
After Christmas Day it has been a fight every single meal for her to take a bite out of food we thought we’re safe foods. She will hold food in her mouth a refuse to chew. I don’t know what to do anymore. I cry every single day at this point trying to get her to eat.
I would love some tips to help her eat in general and adventure out of the “safe food” world.
Things we have tried:
- eliminate distractions
- visual schedules
- having her help prepare meals
- supplements
- rewards and charts
