Variance in Thermometer Readings
My LO started ruining fever last night. I recently got an infrared forehead thermometer to make life easier for checking it during the night (isn’t that when they always seem to wake up with a fever?) Here’s the reading of the infrared thermometer on the forehead vs the regular thermometer in other places:
Forehead - 99.8
Arm - 98.5
Ear - 101.2
Rectal - 103.9
Doesn’t that seem like a huge discrepancy between all of them? The under arm I can dismiss because I probably didn’t take it properly, but the difference between the rectal and forehead readings are huge. I’ve tested the thermometers on myself (under tongue vs forehead) and they were only off by .1°, so not sure why it’s so wildly different on my son. Anybody else have trouble with thermometers accuracy?
