IUI vs IVF?

Hi All, me and my husband just went to a fertility clinic and did a bunch of tests and the doctor recommended starting IUI. My husbands spent count is normal but motility is low and everything came back okay for me but I ovulate a bit later in my period than normal. Is it worth it to try IUI before IVF? They told us there’s a 60-80% success rate for within 6 cycles of IUI. I am 30 and my husband is 33 and I don’t want to waste much time as we want more kids after this but I also don’t want to try anything too evasive if it’s not necessary either.

Just want to clarify the 60-80% cause I was fooled by that number.   It’s sounds like it’s about at 15% chance each cycle which is low but add up to 80% if you try 6 times.   
3 did 3 rounds with no issues - un explained secondary infertility with minor endo.  Then moved to IVF for success.

Personally if you have no coverage id do 3 IUIs then move to IVF. It’s very expensive and if you don’t have coverage I wouldn’t continue doing more IUIs. 
For reference I’m 26, my husband and I have a healthy 7 year old together who was conceived no problem when we were 18. Fast forward and we have been ttc for 3 years. We did IUIs to start because I ovulate no problem on a 28 day cycle like clock work and my husbands numbers are amazing, we also had some insurance coverage. For his sperm post wash he always had 100% motility with over 200 million sperm. Our first iui failed and our second and third ended in chemical. We moved onto IVF last cycle and my fresh transfer ended in chemical. 
Hindsight is 20/20 but I wouldn’t have wasted my time with IUIs, your chances don’t really increase if you already ovulate.

I am 30 and I did my first iui got pregnant right away. Am now 31 weeks pregnant. I would try iui since it’s a lot cheaper then IVF

I would try IUI first it is much cheaper than IVF.  I would at least give iUI 2-3 chances before moving to IVF.

I would try IUI at least once to see what your husband’s total motile count ends up being. If it’s not ideal (>10mil), then I’d start prepping for IVF. We had low morphology, and only had 1.2m TMC for IUI #1, and 3.4/3m TMC for back-to-back IUIs in round 2. We are headed to IVF now, as we did not feel our chances with IUI were high enough to continue, and I am 36 (⏰).

We were in a similar situation. I’m 32 and he’s 34. Our IUI’s cost us about $700 each time with medication. Our fertility clinic had recommended IUI with Clomid rather then injections as the cost goes up a large amount with injections and % of pregnancy doesn’t increase too much. We decided to try 3 IUI’s last winter. All didn’t work but we were glad we gave it a shot before moving on to IVF. We spent the rest of the year trying naturally just in case a miracle happened lol (we’ve been trying for 4 years). We took the rest of this year to save up and then did IVF in December with a fresh transfer and are now 8 weeks pregnant. Our IVF cost $17,000 with all medications. We felt the $700 IUI was worth a shot a few times before we committed to the huge cost of IVF. Also friends of our family had twins on their first IUI so we were hopeful that it may work, didn’t for us but it does for some.

If I had the money I would go straight to IVF. IUI was a joke for me.

We went through IVF and my best friend IUI at the same time. She wished she had the option to save time and go through  IVF, although more invasive in some cases (I’m not a dr, just my observation) it yields a better result. I went through two rounds of retrieval’s, first time only one embryo and that didn’t stick, we got a new plan in motion and second attempt just over two months later yielded seven healthy great grade embryos. It took three tries from that batch and the third try we got our little man. It took me seven months with two and a half month break to get pregnant and four tries. It’s emotionally draining and personally I am relieved we just jumped into IVF, now we have some embabies waiting for us when we’re ready again in a few months. Good luck whatever route you choose! Again, this is just my very personal opinion, this is such an intimate journey you guys need to decide what’s best for you.

I recommend IUI! If I had to go through IVF I would not have too expensive and there is no guarantee that you’ll even get pregnant if you go through it.

We did one IUI and then skipped straight into IVF. IUI just doesn’t have a very high success rate. We had our first transfer today 😍🤞🏼
