Sippy cups?

I have an 11 month old that I’ve been trying to transition to sippy cups from his bottles. I introduced sippy cups around 9 months, as something for him to hold and play with to get used to what it is. Around 10 months I tried to actively teach him how to use the sippy cup, but he’s having issues picking up on it. He typically just open and closes his mouth on the spout, or starts chewing on it.

Is he too young for a sippy cup? I had thought around 1 year was a good time to do the transition but I’ve been having terrible luck. Or is there a specific brand or style I should try? I have the munchkin and nuby sippy cups with soft spouts, so I’m not sure if I should try just regular cups, or straw cups? Anyone struggle with this and find a good style of cup? FTM here so I’m unsure!
