Grandparent rights?

Question

My mom said she could get a court order from a judge to get visitation rights to my son. I’ve looked it up and it’s for extreme cases like for if the partner is deceased , divorced, in an abusive environment, etc. his parents and my mom don’t like our boundaries and think they have a right to our child. It’s not really to be mean but I don’t deal with my partner’s disrespectful parents. I don’t let my religious mother control my life either especially one that think I deserved being attacked by my father in elementary. 
So can they get visitation rights to our son?

It would be a waste of time to try. They have zero rights to your child. You are the parents, not them.

They don’t have rights to your child. At most those laws are for brief supervised (by the parent) contact with grandparents, but you could cite COVID to do Zoom - in the absolute worst-case scenario. They will never have decision-making rights or be entitled to an actual visitation arrangement.

They usually have to prove that they have a relationship with the child first end that you’re keeping the child away from them for no reason basically. 
I had a friend who got grandparents rights but her daughter lived with them for the first few years with her son and they did everything. Then she went to live with her boyfriend and wouldn’t allow them to see their grandson anymore without any justification.

They could try but it would probably fail.  Nothing says you have to leave your child with her.  So DON'T.  Only let her see them unsupervised by you thats it.

It depends on what state you are living in honestly. In my state they would only be able to even file if they were my in laws and my husband had passed away.

My state has grandparents rights but it’s basically only something they can go for if the parents have never been married and a grandchild is kept from seeing them or 1 parent dies and they are kept from seeing a child for over 90 days. They can’t just say, hey I never see my grandkid and I want to. I’m gonna take you to court!! For the most part a judge would assume parents have their kids best interests at heart and that’s why the grandparents aren’t involved much.
I doubt your mom or his would even qualify to ask for it if they ever tried talking to a lawyer.

My in laws tried that with my sister in law and failed because they have to prove that you’re an unfit parent. It’s really hard for it to happen but they can take it to court unfortunately.
