Well there's been a vaccine for chicken pox for over 25 years. I'm old so I remember all my friends and my sister getting chicken pox and they were miserable. By some miracle I never got them so when the vaccine arrived when I was a teenager I quickly got the shot. Both of my kids are vaccinated so they don't have t o suffer.

My daughter got the vaccine and still got it. Very, very mild. A few bumps on her legs.

At least in my area, they don't suggest vaccinating against it I think before 10 years of age, unless there is a medical reason. Because before that age chicken pox is basically "nothing" to them.
I personally had them, when I was 15, and I was so mad at my parents they didn't get me sick earlier. My 3 year old sister came home from kindegarten and barely had small dots on her, but I had full on blisters everywhere and scars now.
