Need advice on burping newborn?!
So my son will be one month in just a few days. My mind is blown that time has already gone so fast! ðŸ˜
But ever since he was just a few days old I’ve been struggling with burping him. The problem is that when I go to burp him, he arches and stiffens his back and tries squirming away and won’t sit still. He bobs his head all around and tries to resist the burping process completely no matter how much I try. I’ve tried multiple positions of burping him and nothing makes a difference. He hates it. He doesn’t cry or anything, he just won’t sit still and won’t relax his body enough for me to effectively do it. Occasionally I’ll get a little burp out of him if he manages to sit for about 30 seconds but that’s rare.
We’ve dealt with an excess amount of gas since he was only a few days old too. He never acts uncomfortable because of it but he definitely has consistent gas. My pediatrician told me to eliminate dairy from my diet completely but I rarely even eat dairy and even if I do it’s in tiny portions so I don’t think that’s the issue. I’ve read that if a baby doesn’t burp then the air has to escape in a different way (gas). So I’m thinking the burping is the cause.
Any advice on what to do? It’s stressful and I’ve already started to give up on trying but I know it’s important and I don’t want my baby to be uncomfortable. Please help!
