On progesterone to start peeiod

Has anyone with irregular cycles been prescribed progesterone to start their period? I haven’t had my period for 8 weeks and my OB told me to take the progesterone for 12 days to start my period so that we could start clomid. I’m on day 4 and still no period. How long did it take you to start your period on progesterone?
