Fighting diaper changes

In need of help!! My girl will be one year old in two weeks. Lately she’s been twisting her body all over the place during diaper changes. I’ve tried everything. I’m giving her stuff, even my phone and the remote isn’t working anymore. How do I get her to stay somewhat still. It took me 20 minutes today to get her into a diaper. My mom said she’s having behavioral issues and now I’m upset. I feel like I’m doing everything wrong ugh. Any tips please

Super normal! Don’t be worried about behavioral issues

So so common you’re not doing anything wrong! If it’s pee I change my girl sitting up. I’ve tried singing and blowing on her stomach to make it fun which helps with bowel movements. Also takingcarababies had a great idea to give an electric toothbrush only for diaper changes. I also get everything ready before she gets on the changing table, wipes out new diaper open, and pants off before we start! It’s helped a lot, she still fusses but it’s just them wanting to continue to play and not give up that time for a diaper change!

I nannied for a kid that was seriously the worst with diaper changes, like he was the hulk in child form, he was just a beast so when it came to diaper changes I would have him pick a toy or something to look at while I changed him. One time it was a AA battery he just looked at in his hands, other time it was a dry erase marker I kept on a white board so it was an “out of reach” toy - which made it exciting to him. I also gave him a key, mouse to the computer, diaper ointment, and a tin cup. The cup was really annoying and I showed him that it could be loud so he was in heaven making all kinds of noise on the wall with it. I would also sing silly songs with him and make it seem like we were about to have the best time ever. Super high voice, over the top excitement, random shit laying around and it worked every time. You have to get super creative 😳

When you give her your phone do you have a kid video on? Maybe try to play something on YouTube with music and colours.

That’s totally normal. She’s way more mobile and her brain development is exploding right now, yet she can’t talk to express herself so they can get super crazy at that age. Tell your mom to mind her own biz and keep her opinions to herself.
