Is this offensive?
I’m thinking of starting an Amazon wishlist for my almost 2 year old. She’s getting to the point that she’s interested in specific things and characters. Also, she’s a toddler so she’s always growing and in need of new things it seems.
My idea was that as I thought of things she needs, or if she’s showing interest in certain things, I could add them to her wishlist. That way when friends or family ask what she needs or is into I could send them the link as a list of ideas. I could also look at it myself as I’m forgetful.
My issue here is, I’m still a bit scarred from my baby shower when people made a huge stink about me only registering at Target. I seriously got angry comments from some people who showed up because “I don’t shop at Target, I don’t like that store. I didn’t get you anything because I didn’t know what you’d want from somewhere else.” This wasn’t just one person’s comment either. I’m sorry, I thought Huggies brand diapers were Huggies brand diapers no matter what store they came from. Avent bottles are sold practically everywhere. I never specifically stated that I would only accept gifts purchased at Target. I honestly wouldn’t care what store they came from. I just made the registry at Target because it was the easiest for my pregnant self to do from my phone. But people were completely offended by it. I actually didn’t even share my registry because I didn’t want people to think I was asking them to buy me stuff. My friend who hosted my shower was the one who shared it.
I asked my husband what he thought about the wishlist idea and he said he thinks I should include a disclaimer that these are all just ideas of things she could use, not to feel obligated to buy anything from the list, or even from Amazon.
I think that’s what I’ll do. But I don’t want to come off as entitled or offensive because I guess that’s the impression people got last time.
