Preeclampsia

I was diagnosed with severe preeclampsia yesterday at 33 weeks and 3 days. It came out of nowhere. I’ve always been extremely healthy and didn’t feel like something was wrong. My doctor was going to send me home after our appointment, but since my blood pressure was slightly elevated (122/86) I decided it would be best to mention that I had been having mild headaches and seeing stars sometimes (which I didn’t think was a big deal but I wanted to make sure). After hearing that, she sent me immediately to Labor and Delivery for further testing where my blood pressure continued to spike and they found protein in my urine.

I was told that I need to stay in the hospital until my baby is born for monitoring. Depending on the severity they will either deliver me right at 34weeks or at the very latest 37 weeks - which would be ideal, but not sound likely at this point. I couldn’t sleep AT ALL last night and the nurse is suggesting I take Ambien tonight to get some sleep. Have any other mom’s taken Ambien while pregnant? Google is saying it isn’t safe (granted Google also told me that my headaches and seeing stars weren’t anything to worry about and I’m aware that Google doesn’t have a medical degree). I obviously trust the medical team at the hospital, but wonder what other moms have done in this situation? Is there a safer alternative that your doctor recommended?
