Would you ask the parent of your son’s female classmate if it’s okay for him to give her a flower for Valentine’s Day?
So I’m sure most of you are familiar with the popular PTA fundraiser of ordering a rose for students to give to whomever they wish for Valentines. I asked my son (who’s in kindergarten) if he would like to give someone a rose. He said yes, there’s one girl he would like to give a rose to. Out of curiosity I asked him why her. He explained to me that one day in class (they sat at the same table for some time) he was telling her a joke that he came up with, and for some reason the joke “made her mad” & he wanted to give her the rose as an apology. (I think he just didn’t get the reaction he was looking for, as opposed to making her legitimately mad...he’s working on coming up with better jokes😄).
Anyway, I was wanting you guys opinion. Out of respect, (because I know how some parents can feel iffy on this) I wanted to ask her mom if it’s okay that my son gives her the rose, even tell her the reason why he wants to give her the rose. Should I ask? Because I would hate for him to give her a rose & she comes back to school the next day & gives it back to him bc her parent(s) don’t approve of that for whatever reason...that would crush his heart😢
Just so you know, there’s still another week or two before I have to turn in his rose form, so in the event the girl’s mom says no, I would heavily redirect his attention on giving a rose to one of his teachers or one of his grandmas.
