Does it matter baby’s position for birth?

I know they have to be head down but does it matter if they’re facing toward my belly or my back? I’m a ftm so I don’t really know, my doctor mentioned sunny side up but idk what she’s referring to.
What is the wrong or right way?

My son was sunny side up and I was actively pushing for like 3 hours

My second was OP (sunny side up). This time I have an anterior placenta too so this baby might be same.
The issues I had were that I had prodromal labor for 2 days, they told me the contractions were happening to help baby get in better position but they were not dilating me. When active labor actually started, I had back labor and could not be laying down as it was too painful. Thankfully, the hospital were I had her would do intermittent monitoring so I didn’t need to be strapped all the time. I labored standing as much as I could (I put my birthing ball on the bed and just kind of rocked on it). A midwife in the hospital told my husband to rub my back during the contractions and to put warm compresses on it in between and that helped a lot.
When I got too tired of standing, I moved to all four on the bed. I was planning to get an epidural but I chose to delay it for a while because I knew that laboring while laying down is not the best to help her position. I got the epidural when I got too tired, it worked except for a coin sized area in my back but it wasn’t too bad as that area helped me know when I had contractions. When I was fully dilated, the OB told me he wants to wait for an hour (or until I have an urge to push) as she was still high and he wanted to see if she descends by herself. After an hour, they had me pushing and I delivered her in 45 minutes. She flipped as she was coming out. Once she flipped, one push for the head and the next delivered her body.
When I was discussing it with my OB prior to delivery, she told me that she wasn’t too concerned about her flipping as I had a successful vaginal delivery before so she knew it was unlikely that she will get stuck, it might be different for a first time mom.

Yes it absolutely matters. Sunny side up babies have a harder time coming through the pelvis and birth canal.

My son was sunny side up. Didn’t know until I was in labor. And yes the back labor is horrific. I was in labor for 24 hours and pushed for 2. I ended up having an assisted birth and an episiotomy. Ask your doctor what your options are.

I’ve heard squatting to deliver sunny side up babies makes it easier than laying down.

Yeah actually I guess it’s usually better for babies face to be facing your spine.. I guess the head can position better that way. Sunny side up just means their spine is facing yours so it’s a bit harder from what I’ve read. My kids were both never in right position lol 😂

Yes it matters. Sunny side up can cause back labor which is horrific lol but probly not too bad of u get an epidural

My sister had a sunny side up baby. I think it might take longer to deliver but she didn’t have any issues.

Sunny side up means shes facing the wrong way. It doesnt mean you cant have a natural but posterior means more back labor and can be a longer labor
