Does anyone hire a nanny instead of daycare?

My husband is in the military and he’s shipping out for a few months and I work full time but from home. My boss doesn’t care that my baby is here with me but with my husbands schedule he gets the baby until noon then I work and watch him for a few hours after that. He’s almost 10 months. But with my husband being gone it’s all on me now and I’m worried I won’t be able to work while watching him all day. It’s a busy job and I supervise staff so I’m constantly in meetings. I was thinking about maybe trying to find a nanny that could come 2-3 days a week and watch him but I would be home too. Not sure if that’s weird?? Also I have zero idea how much nanny services cost. I know it varies by area but I’d love to hear some people’s experiences!!

I never thought I would have a nanny and was all signed up for daycare but then Covid hit.  We just didn’t feel comfortable sending our baby to daycare at that point.  Now its almost a year later and we still have a nanny.  Same situation as you being that I’m home while she is here.  It has worked great.  My daughter loves her and looks forward to her coming. I also really like her and think that it has been worth every cent for the security that she is in the best hands.
I do want to point out she only watches my daughter.  I say this because when we were interviewing people they kept thinking that along with taking care of our daughter they would be cooking, cleaning and doing our laundry.  So make sure you’re clear on that when looking.
I have zero regrets and honestly think my daughter has thrived with the personal attention she gets everyday.  
This all being said, I do hope to send her to daycare after Covid so that she gets the interaction with other kids but as for their first year I think having a nanny that is in your home will make you feel at ease more.  
Side note:  I thought it would be weird that I was working from home with her here at first and it wasn’t at all.  Just make sure you are far away... because you will find yourself wanting to check on and see the baby constantly.

Download urban sitter. I baby sat via that site and a lot of parents request babysitters while they’re working from home.

Look at care.com and you'll see prices nannies charge in your area. They also do background checks. It's not weird at all for you to work from home. My husband has worked form home countless times when our nanny was here during the while I was working. But a big deal at all

I looked into it when my sister and I were planning on sharing a nanny for our children. If you’re in the U.S, there’s a-lot of paperwork and behind the scenes work you’d need to do to register for tax documentation for paying a nanny (each state is different on how many hours need to be worked when filing), unless you’re paying under the table (in which case you couldn’t claim it on tax returns and if you do that’s where you take your chances you don’t get audited). In the state I live in (Massachusetts), for the number of hours we needed for watching our children, we would have had to go the tax route (which would have also included us having to get additional insurance, etc), and it would have ended up costing us more than if we went with a daycare. So we both opted to do daycare instead.

I work with a family who has their nanny with them full-time even though both parents are working from home right now. 
Their kids are even a little older (17, 13, and 9) and she’s still there with them. I don’t think it’s weird, I think it would be nice to have!

Not weird at all! In our area we call them   mother's helpers-- a nanny who helps out while the parent is home.

Omg I would LOVE a nanny!! We are just being extra careful with money at the moment (saving up for more renovations, mama wants a new kitchen lol) so we can’t justify the cost, but if you can afford it I say do it! I looked in our area and most part-time nannies charge an hourly rate, usually around CAD18-30$ depending on experience and education.
