Do you babies latch to the boob on their own?

Question

I always have to shape my nipple and push it into her mouth and she’s 4 months old. 
Do other women just put baby up to the boob and the grab on by themselves?

I usually have to guide him there but if it’s near his mouth he’ll latch on his own. I only have to shape my nipple if I’m engorged because he’s unable to latch when they’re too big

Now I just put him next to my breast and he will latch automatically.. he is 4 months this week.. but he has started to get distracted by things so will turn around a lot.. 🙄

When my daughter does it herself she usually has a shallow latch so I help her

My daughter is 3 months and 15 days and if I bring her up to nipple she’ll latch on her own, sometimes I have to move it to her mouth depending where/how she’s laying to eat
