IUI process while working full time?

Question

Hi everyone! My husband and I are starting the iui process. I work full time and was wondering how your employers handled your taking all the time off required for appointments? Did you fill them in on what you were doing or just take the days off ? Were you able to schedule days off ahead of time for testing before insemination or were they last min appointments? Thank you!

For iuis, I didnt take any time off. Monitoring appts are done in the morning. My clinic does iuis all day so I was always able to schedule mine after work. 
For ivf, I did need to take a day off for surgery, so I would tell my boss when we started a cycle that I would need a procedure done a certain week and that I wouldn't know the day until 2 days before. I didnt end up telling her anything specific until they told me that my transfer would be on either thursday or Friday and that I wouldn't know until day of. So I did give context there

I worked in a lab with one other person and our boss. Me and my counterpart did split/swing shifts. My job was an hour away from my house and the closest clinic was an hour away from my home, and 2 hours away from work. I was reluctant but filled them in. Luckily my doctor understood and had late hours for monitoring as well as early morning, but for the IUI itself I had to switch shifts with my counterpart or come in late for my later shift work weeks. My counterpart and boss were both super supportive. I quit for IVF but they were more than accommodating for IUI. I never needed full days off for any of those appointments.

I am fortunate to have a very close knit staff where I work so I decided to be open and honest and filled everyone in on my fertility issues. I found that since they knew what I was going through everyone was much more understanding especially when at times during IVF they were left short handed. Sometimes in the right situations it can be very helpful and stress relieving to open up to people

My boss knows but even prior to me telling her I’ve never had to take time off. My job is very flexible though and I create my own hours, but on the days when I do have meetings and stuff they’ve worked around me. You don’t have to be totally open with your boss, you could always tell her/him that you have a medical condition that requires you to go to the doctor kinda unpredictably. That’s what I had said until I told her about our infertility.

My boss has been very understanding. But I have also worked there for 13 years and they have been there through all my fertility. I told them in advance that it was coming up and around what days I believe ultrasounds and iui would fall based off of my last cycles. It’s been pretty accurate because thankfully my body seems to respond the same.

Depends on your level of comfort with your manager/boss..but I told my boss and let
Him know that some appointments would only be a few days notice and he was very accommodating.

We did IVF and my appointments were frequent too. The clinic opened at 7 so I booked the 7 AM appointment for the duration. I had enough time to get to work for 7:30 then.

Really only had 3 appointments.  2 super early morning scans that took maybe 15 min.    Then the day of the IUI we needed about 1.5 hours total.   I took the afternoon off

My boss knew about our TTC issues so she was always very accommodating with my appointments. With my IUI i really didn’t have that many so it wasn’t bad. I had maybe 2 monitoring appts then the actual IUI.
