I have endometriosis and PCOS so I’m not even sure I CAN do all I’m about to talk about, but hey maybe it’ll be a possibility one day.

I know it’s literally one of the most normal things we can do. Have babies. But do you ever REALLY think about it? This stuff seriously interests me and I’m considering going to school to become an embryologist that creates embryos for

IVF

. Studying this stuff is what I want to do for a living.

Okay I want to like explain all the anatomy before I start talking, some people may not know what everything is. I’m NOT a good “teacher” and I’m not good at explaining things. Sorry.

Hopefully we all know our periods are our bodies way of shedding our uterine lining. (Uterine lining is literally the lining of the uterus and it has to be thick and lush for a pregnancy to inhabit it) But before it did that, your body ovulated and produced an egg.

Let’s say you have sex, sperm travels through the vagina and uterus to the Fallopian tube and meets the egg. Then the fertilized egg, now called a “zygote” travels down the Fallopian tube into the uterus and implants itself into the thick uterine lining you would have during this time in your cycle because you haven’t had a period yet.

Now you’re pregnant.

Let’s back up some.

Okay first of all, it’s not love at first sight. The zygote eats away at the endometrium, I always thought that it was just absorbed by the endometrial lining with “open arms” like “come to me child” No, our wombs aren’t so welcoming. It just so happens that our wombs are thick enough during that time that a sticky little embryo can latch on and eat itself into the endometrium until it’s completely covered up and comfy. Human embryos are one of the most invasive of all species, and need that thick uterine lining. They literally take nutrients from the uterine lining while embedding into it. That’s how important it is.

After that there is an immune reaction, our bodies recognize this new inhabitant as an invader. It’s DNA doesn’t even match ours. Our immune system freaks out. Your entire immune system has its eyes on this invader in your uterus and is bowed up ready to kick it out. BUT, instead of attacking it. the body is like “well, um. I think I kinda like this imposter.” And sends these special immune cells that are triggered by the HCG hormone that protect the embryo from being attacked by your immune system and discarded by your body. THEN it’s “love at first sight.” It’s just that at first it’s a tug of war with what you could say is your non pregnant body and pregnant body. Your uterus does it’s thing, your body reacts like it’s saying “WHAT THE HELL IS THAT.” And then it’s like “oh I think I get what’s going on now” sends immune cells*

Your entire body starts to change even this early. It’s like “BUCKLE UP BUDDY.” And if you’ve ever been pregnant before I’m sure you know what I’m talking about.

Your body fully nourishes and protects another being for 9 months. Granted you need to take vitamins because growing a whole entire person takes ALOT out of you. You’re growing brains, a heart, bones, freaking toenails and all of that is coming from you momma. There’s a reason why it’s common for a woman’s teeth to start decaying during pregnancy even if she’s never had teeth problems in her life, and it’s due to lack of calcium because you’re making another person.

Creating another person, an entire being, another soul, is probably the coolest thing to me. And if you’ve done it, look at your kid and think to yourself what a bad ass you are for doing it because even science says it’s not easy, at all.

That’s all I wanted to ramble on about. I know I’m probably very weird, I don’t care.
