Is 10.5 months too early for a baby to self-wean? I’m a FTM, and my LO will turn 11 months old on February 9th. The last few months we’ve had a rock solid breastfeeding timetable: breastfeed when she wakes in the morning around 7:30, then i go to bed (i work nights) and daddy gives her solid food for breakfast around 9, and then a bottle around 11 before her nap. When she wakes from her nap i breastfeed her (usually between 1-2p), then she breastfeeds again between 3:30-4, then solids for dinner around 5. Then she’ll breastfeed or get a bottle for bed (depending on if i work or not) around 7. Sometimes wakes up once for a feed during the night, half the time sleeps right through.

However the last two days she has had no interest in the afternoon breastfeeds. Yesterday i tried 3-4 times over an hour and a half to breastfeed her before dinner and she just flat out wasn’t interested-wanted to play, talk at me, squirm away, grab her binky (usually her signal she was done), and was in a generally good mood just wasn’t interested in the boob in front of her face at all. When i finally gave up (because she started getting mad at me and i realized it was turning into a power struggle between us which wasn’t what i wanted), i asked her if she wanted ‘food’ (using the sign) instead and she instantly got excited and was smacking the high chair when i set her in it, and immediately dug into her dinner plate when i set it in front of her. And now we are having the same issue today for her post-nap feed. I set her down with a snack instead which she instantly chowed down on because i don’t want her to go hungry, but this is really effecting my self esteem. I’ve been trying so hard to get to the one year mark and the thought that she might self-wean before then honestly never occured to me 😢. Its not like the nursing strikes we’ve worked through before because she isn’t upset about it unless i try to force the breastfeeding. She isn’t currently teething and digs into the food just fine so i don’t think her gums are bothering her. I’m just at a loss. Anyone else go through this at this age? And if she is self-weaning does that mean i have to give her bottles instead until she is one? I don’t pump enough milk for that so i would have to supplement with formula if that is the case 😕.
