I always thought my husband was kinda homophobic but...
We were talking earlier about a convo I had with my mum, about a child she knew (8yo) had told their mum she was gay, and her school chucked her out (Christian school) I was saying how horrible that was, my mums a boomer and also a bit homophobic... I’m trying to educate her slowly.
My husband said yeah I think two men being gay is “disgusting” I was shocked! We got into the convo more... he doesn’t think lesbians are gross... surprise surprise. He also had a problem with my son wearing dresses 🙄
I said to him, as we have two children, and both sets of our parents are on varying degrees of homophobia, I wasn’t wanting to potentially be the only supportive person in their lives if either were to decide they weren’t anything but 100 percent straight..
I want to bring my children up to accept everyone as long as they’re happy and those people aren’t hurting anyone, how do I get my husband to understand that it makes no difference who people want to be with or who they’re attracted to?
He’s also south Asian, so I compared it to racism which I think helped, but he has a hard time accepting he’s wrong at times.
He sometimes makes comments to my son like oh don’t do that, that’s for girls etc... I tell him away from my son that that’s not ok, but I want him to truly believe it, not just not say it because I tell him not to
