Promote Gambling for profit?

So question-I’m sure for those who are on Facebook you’ve seen the spin to win wheels, etc.

So any time I’ve participated or done one myself it’s because it was to fundraise for a good cause. I do virtual fundraisers constantly for a rescue that are either live drawings or wheel spins. But the thing is I don’t keep a single penny-it’s all done for charity-all done thru Venmo and PayPal-and very transparent so not only does the rescue see the amount but so does anyone who paid on Venmo who sees the transaction from me to them.

But how would you feel if you saw one being done for like a side business with no beneficiary other than the person doing the wheel just to profit extra?

For example-this girl does a little like crafting thing for a side job with those hot chocolate Bombs that every ones selling. She’s spamming every local page today and her own business page that she’s doing a wheel and the winner gets a free prize (equivalent to like $10) but she’s charging $5 per wheel spot and doing 20 spots so really she’s making a quick $90 and only handing out $10 worth of product to one person.

On one hand, I know participants are playing knowing they may not win and it’ll be a waste but on another hand as a business owner that’s not how you ethically make money and it doesn’t sit right with me. If you’re product or services are that great-it’ll sell itself. It seems like an easy way to work less and make more-especially because they can buy her product at almost the same price as you’re charging for a spot.

And it’s actually illegal in my state unless she plans on paying taxes. It’s only tax free and legal if it’s to benefit a registered non-profit as a fundraiser.

How would you guys feel about that? Would you participate? I personally only pay to play for actual fundraisers where even if I don’t win my money goes to a good cause regardless.

*edit: I own and operate 2 small businesses myself and those are my sole source of income & my full time work so I’m very well aware of need to promote/generate page traffic & business, etc. I personally would never do it in a way where I’m taking peoples money and they aren’t getting some type of product or service in exchange in an attempt to profit myself without which is why for me personally, it’s a turn off*

Also, as I stated, in my state this is illegal because these types of things are only legal when profit is going to a charity/registered non-profit which makes it even more of a turn off for me personally. Was just curious as to everyone else’s thoughts
