Magnolia Nova

Ka

She's finally here!

At 40+4 I woke up in the middle of the night and couldn't fall back to sleep so I watched a show on the couch and contractions started every ten minutes apart. My partner stayed home from work and we let my mom know we'd probably need her to get our toddlers from childcare. Throughout the day I alternated between resting and going for walks with my partner all while the contractions kept coming. They were getting stronger but were inconsistent anywhere from 5-10 minutes apart. I was induced with my sons and wasn't sure what to expect from spontaneous labor. I knew I wanted to stay home as long as possible. By the late afternoon contractions were so far apart and inconsistent I was sure she wasn't coming. I got in the tub and rested while my partner got our boys from childcare. As soon as he left to collect them I started having very strong contractions and needed to use the restroom. I had my bloody show and texted my mom that we might go get checked to see if anything was happening. My mom is an hour away, by the time she arrived and I had everyone ready to go the contractions were 3-4 minutes apart and painful. We went to the hospital and were laughing the whole way to L&D. My partner even got stuck in the revolving door, haha. I joked they'd send us right home because I didn't appear to be in enough pain. We got settled in and they checked me. I was already 6cm! We laughed and labored for about another hour and then it got so intense I couldn't take it anymore. I guessed I was in transition and the next check showed 8cm. By this point I couldn't breathe through the contractions or take it for one more minute. I asked for an epidural but was told I needed a bag of fluid first which takes an hour. They started fluid and placed the epidural and we waited. I was crying and shaking and couldn't relax. Once they started the epidural I knew immediately it wasn't in correctly. I told the nurse I felt fine enough to walk and picked my legs up. I felt every single contraction and was yelling, literally yelling, for help. After two hours they placed a new epidural and I got relief for a few contractions until the doctor came in and broke my water. The next contraction I felt her head come down and we were ready to push. After two contractions Magnolia was here and Daddy was sobbing. There were concerns with meconium in my water, but she pinked up and cried right away. She was born on 1/28 at 2:15am, 8lbs 12oz and 20.5 inches long. We spent one day in recovery and came home just in time for a blizzard. It's only been 5 days but she already looks bigger! We're so glad she's here.
