IVF/ICSI- Transfer 1 or 2 embryos? Help!!

Ladies, what was your make it or break it decision when deciding to transfer 1 or 2 embryos during IVF ?

If you're under the age of 35, they should be only transferring one.

I wasn’t allowed to have more than one embryo transferred for my IVF cycle due to some ethical reasons. But statistically, one embryo does better and have a higher chance for survival and flourishing versus two or more embryos together. Please read about the medical reasons for one over the other. I fought with my doctor and husband for months before I realized having only one for implant will be the best option.

Many doctors won’t give you the option depending on your age, diagnosis and whether or not you PGT. The standard practice guidelines say that under age 35, you should stick to transferring a single embryo unless there’s a specific reason that there’s a low chance of the embryo sticking (very low quality embryos, extremely hostile uterus, so on). If you PGT, most doctors will not let you transfer multiple, at all. There’s already a higher risk of splitting during the IVF process, so two embryos can turn into three or more. Multiple are also risky for each other and for the woman to carry. On top of that, there’s research that shows carrying a male and a female can cause harm to the female, specifically. Also, consider that if you transfer two at once and it fails due to being incorrect timing, or the incorrect medication plan for you, you’ll lose your best quality embryos 2x as fast, without the ability to make adjustments beforehand. I stand strongly by PGT rather than multiples being transferred partially because of these reasons.
