Who would you offer the job to (see description)

Question

Not baby related but it’s on my mind! I have to help make this decision and struggle with letting people down. Both are internal candidates and interviewed really well. 
A- does a similar job atm, friendly and helpful, but is on a 2 month notice period
B- isn’t familiar with the specific job but is passionate about wanting the opportunity, seems a nice person but I don’t know them too well, can start immediately.

I would go with the person you think is most qualified for the job regardless of length of notice. You are going to want the right person for the job in the long run and not just the person that can start sooner. I’m a recruiter and see people make this mistake. You don’t want to be in the same situation a few months down the road if it doesn’t work out.

2 month notice is A LOT. Maybe offer A but say you can only do 1 month notice if not then go w B.

A lot can happen in 2 months. Family emergencies or career changes etc. I would go with B.

Things I would consider: Is training someone to be independent in the position going to take more or less time than 2 months? Is the person who requires two month notice likely to stay where they are if their current employer makes a counter offer/why do want to make a lateral career move?
