Apologies
Alright so sparked by Morgan Wallen and other awful celebrities, I want to discuss apologies.
What makes an apology genuine?
Should people apologize just because it’s “the right thing to do?”
Is there a “too soon” to apologize?
For me, I think a proper, genuine apology takes time. If you apologize immediately after doing something serious, then to me, it shows you haven’t actually thought about what you’ve done and considered how it affects others. You haven’t had enough time to even think about why you did what you did, or if you think it’s wrong.
In my opinion, if someone is a public figure, I’d much more appreciate an initial response of something like “i have heard your responses and reactions to my actions. I’m going to take some time to learn and think about things.” Take time off of social media to actually think about it. Then, if you’re sorry, you can make an apology and have a good explanation for why you’re sorry and how you’re going to make an effort to change.
