Should I get a new dining room table?
Ok so our dining room table is our only table that we use in our house. We don’t have a eat in kitchen so we eat at our dining room table.
Our table is old, and cheap and crappy. We got it probably like 7 years ago from ikea. The seats are in ok shape, still functioning, but the cloth part has a few stains. The table has a couple of scratches.
My husband wants to get a really nice one. We have some extra money right now, and we could use a nice table. I just don’t think right now. I don’t think it’s a good idea. We have two young kids, 2.5 and a one year old. My 2.5 year old likes to climb the table. I of course don’t let him, but that doesn’t stop him from trying. Also my son currently started eating at the table on a booster seat and makes a mess. He has a silicon placemat that is pretty effective in keeping the table clean, but he still does get food on the table, as he is only 2.
Another thing- my son is in early intervention therapy right now for speech and special instructions. He does a lot of sensory stuff at the table. He colors, plays with play doh, and sometimes finger paint
I am the type of person- if we make a mess, we clean it up. No big deal.
My husband- very rigid- if there’s a mess, he freaks out, then we clean it up.
I can only imagine the level of anxiety this table will cause. If my son spills a drink on a brand new table (which he will) my husband will lose his shit everytime.
This guy wants to go shopping tomorrow to buy a new table. I think it’s a bad idea, and we should wait until the kids are a little older. What do you guys think?
