No heartbeat at 8 weeks ?

Hi, 
My doctor told me she couldn’t find a heartbeat at 8 weeks 3 days. I’ve had no symptoms of miscarriage. She wants to do a D&C as early as next Tuesday (3 days from today). I feel like everything I’m reading says to do a follow up scan to be sure there is no heartbeat and it truly is a miscarriage in 10-14 days. Should I get a second opinion? Should I push back and tell her I don’t want the risky surgery until I’m 100% sure the pregnancy isn’t viable? Any advice is welcome. I am so lost.

I would choose a follow up scan too, personally.  I would just need it for my own peace of mind before I made a decision.  I’m sorry mama xx

I would definitely do a second scan. Go with what your heart and gut are telling you. You will have peace of mind that way. Otherwise you will always wonder.

Did they show you the screen at all... when I had my 9 weeks scan when I had a loss I could see on the screen a 9 week baby shape and no flicker so i didn’t question it... sometimes you can be early and they can’t see anything but usually around that many weeks they can measure the baby and see no cardiac activity and unfortunately that’s just it:/ but always do what makes u feel comfortable .... goodluck

I would 100% get a second scan. Also as someone said. If the baby did pass waiting a couple weeks to see if your body releases baby naturally is better. D&C should wait until necessary.

Always follow up! I lost our first baby at 8 weeks and 4 days last August. The baby did have a heartbeat at 7 weeks so I was pretty sure the heartbeat wouldn't come back but I prayed for a miracle. However it can happen and that is why they said to do another scan because sometimes dates can be off or something else. My doctor did the same thing. We hoped for the best but expected the worst which is my advice to you... I would do the 2nd scan but please don't get your hopes up... I had morning sickness and nausea basically until I actually miscarried. As long as your HCG is high you will still have symptoms. I had to take medication because the baby wouldn't pass on their own. If this is truly a miscarriage for you I am so sorry for your loss 😔 Rainbow babies happen though and I am pregnant with our sweet baby boy and am 17 weeks today.

I would get another scan just for your peace of mind, you dont want to go in the future living with what ifs.
Also you dont have to have to D&C in England they make you wait 2 weeks to see if your body realises the baby has passed and started the process naturally which is safer, and if your body doesnt start then you can take the pills to help bring it on which is what i did.

They did a scan 4 times before they gave me pills to help me pass my baby. My advice, get it done one more time and if there isnt a heartbeat, get a d&c. They were forcing me to do so many scans and it was so painful to watch and lay there on the table.

I went through the exact same thing but I was 8w 4d according to ultrasound. I asked for another ultrasound the only day they had available was for me to come in the following day. Still no heartbeat so we scheduled a d&c for the same week 😪 wish we would've waited. I didn't have ANY cramping, bleeding. Nothing. Prayers girl I genuinely feel everything your going through.
