C section recovery tips they don’t tell you!

Here’s a few things that the nurses might not tell you, because they didn’t tell me!

- you might not be able to move for a few days, and laying on your side or stomach won’t happen for awhile.

- since your ab muscles are weak, all of your strength will come from your back muscles and your back will be incredibly sore

- cleaning your incision is very important, they never told me that you have to properly clean it with antibacterial soap and air dry the wound for 20-30 minutes before letting your stomach down back over it. if you don’t, like I didn’t, because they never told me it had to air dry, it will develop a smell which could be sign of infection.

- signs of infection, because it’s VERY common:

bump on one area of the incision, pain in leg on the side of the bump, pain in only one leg even without a bump, hip pain in one side only, pain only when walking, smell, itchy-ness

- try to avoid shaving the area where the incision is! getting hair inside the incision can cause infection as well.

- it can take up to 2 years to fully recover from a c section since it is a major surgery, they never told me that!

- it’s not safe to start exercising quickly, your body needs to heal completely, then start with stretching, yoga and very light impact exercising before even thinking about weight lifting.

- c sections are very hard and doesn’t make you any less strong because you didn’t “have to push a baby out”. c sections are scary and most times are from an emergency and it’s very scary. your scar is beautiful. 💟
