Has anyone built a custom home-How long did it take to build?

Question

My S/O and I want to buy land and build our house on it (in the future - about 4-5 years from now). How long is the building process from start to finish? 
We estimate that it’ll probably take approx 8 months giver or take, assuming that there are no complications. 
Curious if anyone has any experience you’d like to share :)
Ps: idk what group to post this in so I’m just gonna leave it here

We totally custom built. Bought land, found a contractor, then the next year started to build. From the start of building to finish building took 7 months. We live in the country so no permits were needed.

Took my FIL awhile to clear out the land. 
Then little over a year for building. He did most the work himself, or with my BIL.

Depends on the builder and the area. We built semi-custom and it took 9 months (2000 sqft) We are getting ready to build fully custom and it’ll take about 13 months (3500 sqft).

No idea. But we are in your same boat... we just bought a 4 acre lot and plan to build in 3 years.  I keep dreaming of what my house will be like when it is done.  Good luck!

Would you be paying a contractor or doing the general contracting yourself?

It will depend on your builder. If you have an idea for the area you want then look into the potential builders.

Built once before it took 6-7 months, Tract home. Building again, bigger home and this one will take about 9-10 months or so, mostly because the builder is custom and he’s booked up.

We added a 1200 sq ft. Addition to our house so basically like a whole nother house took alittle out ver then 2 years it was such a hassle with the city that’s what took the longest getting our plans approved...
