COVID Vaccine?

I’m curious to know if you and your OBGYN have discussed the vaccine and their opinions. 
I’m a teacher who is face-to-face with 75 students a day, and 9 weeks pregnant. I have the opportunity to be vaccinated Thursday, and am currently signed up.
I didn’t feel like my OB really had a strong stance either way. He said that they were recommending it and many pregnant healthcare workers had already been vaccinated, but that he understood the hesitation and the decision to not, as well. He stated that due to my job, and two other children in daycare- that I definitely risk exposure.
Would love to hear what others were told!

I am an RN as well and pregnant and have chosen not to get the vaccine as well. I realize it’s a very personal decision. But for me it’s a no. My OB does recommend it but there is 0 studies on pregnant women. I do know pregnant coworkers who have gotten but also seen reports on VAERS of women having miscarriages/stillbirths. They also don’t know the long term effects of it. When researching pregnant women vs Non pregnant have a 0.2% greater chance of death. I also know many pregnant women who have had Covid with just minor symptoms. I guess I am willing to risk getting Covid for a vaccine they know minimally about.  But you have to do what you feel comfortable with. Personally I’m not willing to get an Emergency use only, trial vaccine.

I am staying well away but am not public facing in my job. It wasn’t tested on pregnant women so we can’t know the long term impact. A number miscarriages have been reported to VAERS that occurred at various gestational ages within hours or days of vaccine. Obviously many of these are healthcare workers.
As well it doesn’t either stop you catching it or passing it on, but may make the symptoms weaker. 
I would ask for details of the contents of the one you would be getting so you can research before agreeing.

I’m a teacher, too. My OB recommended getting it if we were to go back to in person instruction. 
She is also pregnant and got the vaccine. She believes it’s safe since it is made similarly to other vaccines that have been safe during pregnancy.
She said the complications of getting COVID while pregnant greatly outweigh whatever side effects may arise from the vaccine.

From what I've read and found, only the live virus vaccines are not allowed for pregnant women. All other types are fine. The vaccines for covid are mRNA type mostly which show no risk. Most doctors in US are supportive of the vaccines for pregnant women , they dont push it and dont advise against either. It's your choice.

My OB advised to get it. i got my first shot last week and get my second dose on 25. To me the risk of getting covid while pregnant are higher than getting the vaccine.

I’m a covid nurse and I got covid 2 days after I found out I was pregnant at 4 weeks. My doctor said I COULD get it but didn’t recommend it in the first trimester in her opinion. I’m not getting the vaccine just because there is not enough research on how it is on pregnancy. I’ve had MULTIPLE readmit patients who have already had covid the end of last year and are now coming in with covid again 1 to 2 weeks after the vaccine. I’m not saying nobody should be taking it. But even as someone who works directly with covid patients I won’t be taking it until after, if then!

I’m getting it. My doctor was thrilled he was able to secure 600 doses for his patients. Read the recent updates from the WHO and NIH on the vaccine for pregnant women.

I had Covid during this pregnancy. It was BAD. My OB said it’s cuz I was pregnant that it wiped me out so bad. All my friends who have been prego the last year caught it as well, each of them had it bad like me. I’m still recovering and it’s been almost a month since I had it. 
My OB said if I have the change (I work with kids as well I’m our children’s pastor at church) to get it. I can’t imagine getting Covid AGAIN while prego, or after with a newborn.

All of the actual data I’ve looked at and professionals I’ve spoken with leave me very comfortable signing up for the vaccine (as both a pregnant and nursing mama).  The one thing I have heard is to potentially avoid getting it in the first trimester as you can have a fever reaction that could be dangerous before the second trimester (however that can also be managed with Tylenol, especially if you’re in a high risk position).  I’d highly recommend checking out mama doctor jones on Instagram and YouTube as she’s had a TON of great resources that really helped me weigh the risks and benefits.  My midwife couldn’t advise me either way as, as others have stated, the data is on going but did highlight the fact that the vaccine ingredients are all generally safe in pregnancy.

I have gotten the 1st dose of the moderna. My injection spot / arm hurt for 2 days but went back to normal on the 3rd day. I didn’t experience any major issues. It’s recommended to get plenty of rest and eat well the week you’re getting the vaccine. Do not get the vaccine if you think you may have covid. I got a covid test 2 days before my injection just to make sure I was clear. The vaccine protects you and the baby. The dangers of covid while pregnant are very concerning and getting the vaccine is a stop gate to protect one from getting severely sick or hospitalized. Women who contract covid have a 5x higher risk of requiring ICU admission, increased risk of preterm birth and increased risk of death. This is from my doctor who is a top OBGYN in California. It’s ultimately everyone’s choice but I’ll go with the science. I have seen this virus kill amazing people young and older abs have seen the ones who recovered left with so many long term issues. I think if it’s available for you you get the vaccine definitely get it.
