Low Fertilisation Rate ICSI

Kristina

Hi Ladies,

I hope you are all doing well in at whatever point of your journey you are at. I am just feeling so hopeless at the moment and I am hoping for some uplifting stories to give me a little bit of hope.

We have been ttc for 4 years due to severe MFI. I have a child from previous relationship. I had myself checked out and everything is all normal. My amh is 19 pmol and my baseline antral follicle count was 15. We were supposed to start with our cycle last year but due to Covid, we got delayed. So we finally started this year (self-funding) as I dont qualify for nhs funding. I went for my egg retrieval yesterday and they retrieved 22 eggs. We were really happy with this number even though they cancelled my fresh cycle as I was at risk of ohss. I wasnt doing well when I got home. So bloated and in pain.

We got the call today from the embryologist. Only 5 fertilised. She told me that all of the eggs were mature and they did ICSI on all of them. I was really shocked and unhappy. I know the attrition rate would be high, but I never expected to just have 5. Does that mean that my egg quality is really poor?

I am now wondering whether we will even have an embryo to use for FET. I am just so sad.😢

Update Day 3

Just received an update today from the embryologist.

All 5 are progressing!!! 4 are high quality blastocysts and 1 borderline.

She said there is a good possibility that we will end up in one blast to freeze. I have been sending so much love to those embabies, I hope they continue to grow. I’m keeping myself grounded because statistically we’re not out of the woods yet. We know Day 3-5 is when male factor kicks in. So really hoping they progress well!!
