Can someone tell me about egg retrieval?

I was recently talking to someone about it and now I’m a little freaked out. Is it as awful as it sounds?

Answer

The actual retrieval isn’t bad. Most clinics knock you out for it. The recovery can be nasty for those of us that hyperstim. I felt like I was going to die for most of a week. I was also extremely uncomfortable ahead of time because of how large my ovaries were/how many follicles. 
This is not the reality for most women. Plenty go about their days before and after, like nothing happened. It’s just a possibility you need to be aware of if you’re at risk for OHSS.
