Household essentials??

Question

What are some essentials for a new house? This is our first house. I’m talking anything and everything from pesto bismol to couches, etc. obviously, I know the big things that are needed but what other essentials did you need or wish you would’ve had? I want to be as prepared as possible and go on one large shopping trip rather than getting things as needed

No one mentioned a plunger, you always need a plunger until you don’t have one and you have an emergency. Garbage bags, as for your medicine cabinet I would always have Pedialyte on hand just in case of hangover or dehydration from vomiting or diarrhea, always good to have Gatorade in the house for the same reason if you don’t wanna do Pedialyte. Definitely your medicine cabinet should have Tylenol, Advil those kind of things, tweezers, bandaids, Neosporin with pain relief, Pepto-Bismol, toms Gas-X,  wet wipes to wipe yourself, dental floss, vaseline is very helpful for dry chapped hands, your lips, Vicks vapor rub is great for so many things like mosquito bites, when you’re congested, and so many other things, a thermometer in case you get a fever, tissues, honey and cinnamon, if you do get sick you mix it into a paste and eat it, it breaks fevers, you name it. Baking soda is great for a lot of things, not only baking, but for odors, in your refrigerator it’s great to put it in there to absorb any odor and witness, measuring cup, measuring spoons, a whisk, salt and pepper, all of your laundry products, softener, whatever you use dryer sheets etc. laundry basket and hampers, extra blanket for the couch in case you get cold when you watch TV, some good baking ware and baking sheets for the oven, Pyrex, aluminum or 10 foil or parchment paper, cupcake container for travel is great if you ever want to take them to work or something, also the tins and liners for the cupcakes or muffins, always have ice packs in case￼￼￼Chapstick, I don’t know if it’s snowing where you are, probably a shovel, a good snow removal brush and scraper for your car without extender in case you have an suv to clean the top, it’s always good to have an emergency kit in the car as well, I don’t know where you live if there’s snow or not, kitty litter, will help with traction or sand, in case you’re stuck, those emergency handwarmers, a blanket, they have a tool that breaks the window and cuts the seatbelt in case you are trapped under water, a flashlight, a tool kit for the car, all the fluids like washer fluid, oil, transmission fluid, power steering fluid, they have an Walmart a tire inflator in case your tire is low, for like 20 bucks you can get one, make sure that your car has all of the pieces that you need in case you need to change a tire, a AAA membership is always great to so you don’t have to do it yourself. Bottles of water and some snacks in case you’re stranded, cell phone chargers, a pen in case you need it, Post-it ‘s, tape, Extra wiper blades, lightbulbs and fuses, he like your brake lights in case the tail light is out or headlight is out, it’s always better to be prepared and not need it.  the house ￼￼￼cleaning products like ajax for the toilet, those Mr. clean Magic eraser‘s are great for Cleaning the stove, stains on the wall, etc. Dish soap like Dawn is great for many things as well, obviously your feminine hygiene products, deodorant,￼ A shower caddy to hold all of your shampoos and things in the bathroom to organize that your loofah etc. a toilet cleaning brush, definitely toilet paper paper towels, all of your normal toiletries hand soap bar soap shampoo body wash whatever you normally use. Always have ice packs in your freezer in case of an injury or to take items to and from home, to keep them cool for your lunches etc. It’s always good to keep a frozen bottle of water in your freezer because if your power goes out at least I’ll keep the food cold. Obviously your bedding, blankets or comforters, duvet, sheets, mattress protector, good pillows, whether you are a side sleeper or you sleep on your back, pillows are very important especially if your neck support. A heating pad, you never know when you’ll need it when you’re injured, or for cramps, an alarm clock, hangers for your clothes in the closet, some thing to organize all of your shoes, make up if you wear it, things to organize your vanity area where you get ready in the morning, blow dry her hair straightener those kind of things, nail polish remover because you never know when you’re gonna need it, rubbing alcohol, peroxide, great for cleaning, white vinegar or clear vinegar, also great for cleaning and other things around the house, toothbrushes your basic toiletries mouthwash depending if you have a large family a dining room set or just something small that you can eat around the kitchen or barstools if you have a countertop, definitely a good set of knives, cutting board, servingware, a lot of big spoons, colander to drain your pasta, big pot for pasta or rice cooker, microwave, some people use air fryer‘s or crockpots or Insta pots CanOpener, a toaster, coffee maker, depending if you have rugs are you have carpet, obviously vacuum, one of those swiffer wet jet‘s is great for hard floors, broom, even a rumba. A coffee table, when you’re watching TV you can put your cup down obviously, some people like a recliner or a sectional that has the recliner in it, if you have a fireplace you need the tools for usually can get those at Home Depot, basically if you go to the home section in Walmart and target you’ll probably find most of the things you’re looking for in their kitchen in there bathroom and bedding areas. Room spray for when somebody goes to the bathroom stinks up the house, those plug-ins, Windex to clean the mirrors, or you can use vinegar also. I carrot peeler, if you’re really big on pineapple, they have a pineapple corer, they have so many gadgets in the ass seen on TV section in stores, from things that cut watermelons to things that cut avocados or mangoes, definitely spices if you’re into cooking, some kind of oil or nonstick spray like a Pam, Ziploc bags in different sizes, some people use a cast-iron skillet to cook with, you can look online how to season it and keep it well preserved, so it doesn’t rust, CLR which is a product for calcium lime and rust, which is good to clean the showerheads, A toolbox is very helpful, with your basic essentials, flashlight, hammer, different screwdrivers, your Phillips, your flat head, different site an adjustable wrench, with different sizes, measuring tape, a power drill if you’re really into the home improvements or hanging pictures etc. broom broom, lightbulbs, heating and air conditioning filters which she can probably find in Walmart or Home Depot, fans are space heaters, a generator just in case your power goes out a little pricey but case of an emergency, at least you can plug the refrigerator in the essentials into it. I turkey baster for the holidays, and electric knife to cut the turkey, a standing blender that’s handheld so you can make soups or mashed potatoes etc. some people like one of those magic chopper things so they don’t have to cut onions and make them tear up, some people make their own zucchini noodles they have a device that will make the noodles for you, it’s always good to have an inflatable bed in case you get guests, towels, for the bathroom in the shower, bathmat bathmat, shower curtain, if you were contact lenses a holder for the case and solution and the egg somatic cleaner, your vitamins and supplements, Games and puzzles and books to keep you occupied and for game night, usually can get them pretty cheap at five and below or Walmart target that kind of stuff soapdish, toothbrush holder, ￼￼￼￼￼￼￼￼￼￼￼￼￼￼￼￼￼￼￼￼￼￼

Furniture is super hard to get right now. You will likely need to buy used or from a site like Wayfair. Just a heads up. We moved in July, and had no idea. The people who bought our old house stipulated they wanted the couch with it, so we let them have it. Then we had to sit on the floor of our new home for 6 months. 
But you need furniture. Dishes. Linens. Etc.

Microwave cart was a must for me because we have limited counter space so my cart holds my coffee maker, microwave, coffee mugs, blender, crockpot, cutting boards and my paper towels. Hangers, dish drying mat or rack, coat rack (mine goes over my door), I have tons of dvds so I have dvd stands, tools, door mat, containers for sugar flour ect. Toaster, shower caddy, bathroom rug, trashcan for bathroom as well as toothbrush holders and soap for bathroom, all cleaning supplies you may need, shower curtain rod if it's not provided

Variety of batteries(especially if you have garage and fan remotes), spare set of house keys and place to hide them, extension cords, garden hose, drain-o. I would also highly recommend buying a huge pack of microfiber cloths. I bought a ton from Home Depot for like $5 and use them for dishes and cleaning and drying hands/dishes and just throw them all in the wash every couple weeks. Total life and money saver(use less paper towels). Also night lights for dark hallways at night have come in handy for me.
