Were you ovulating/in the fertile window? My gyn knew I was pregnant based on my cervix during an exam. But implantation usually takes place 6-even 12 days after ovulation.

Maybe I don’t know all the details on a pap outside it detecting certain cells, std etc but i did not think a smear test would pick up pregnancy?

I would say no, implantation happens usually as early as 6 DPO, so if you had sex and ovulated on the 23rd, 5 days later would be too soon.
