Potty training! Any advice?

Question

The last 3 days my son will tell me "pee" or "poop" if he goes in his diaper. He also immediately wants changed. So yesterday I went out and bought pull ups and a training potty. I have everything all set up and I introduced it last night. He seemed to like flushing it but doesn't quite understand that he needs to go in it. I'm not trying to rush the process just wondering if you mama's have any advice or tips 🙂

My advice is to read “Oh Crap! Potty training”. It was seriously the best thing I could have done. Almost two weeks into potty training and Logan is daytime potty trained.

Andy has been fully potty trained for almost 3 months now and what worked for us was watching signs of when he needs to pee or poop. We also left him bottomless all day and after 2 days he was walking himself to the potty. I suggest taking him every few minutes or at least asking every few minutes! It helped a ton. It didn’t take us more than a week but because since I was a SAHM I had the time to be consistent with it. When we’d go out we’d carry the adaptor for the toilet and we’d take him to the restroom even if he was wearing a diaper.

What we were doing prior to potty training was having him sit on a toilet when we went to the bathroom and would say we go potty in the toilet. We would read books and have him practice flushing. We started 3 days ago and the first day we were in there for 5-10 minutes every hour or asking if he had to go. Yesterday he got up and ran to the potty on his own when he was playing with his dad and has been doing that since. If we ask he will say yes or no, like when he’s eating in the high chair. He has been running around naked and had a bunch of accidents the first day and one yesterday. We do a reward system for when he goes, he gets to splash in the tub with a bucket of water, have a mini receese, or stickers. It’s been working really well, so I probably just jinxed myself 😃 naps and bedtime still in diapers which is fine with us. I’m shocked we have had as much luck as we have had with the potty.
