I just had my daughter in October of last year. She’s my first child but my parent’s 4th grandchild. My mother has never done this with any of my niece and nephews. On several occasions she’ll refer to herself as my daughter’s mother. If I’m in the kitchen cooking and my daughter is watching me while my mother holds her my mother will say “Are you looking at mama? Well she’s not your mama, I am” or if I need to go to the grocery store and leave her with my mom she’ll playfully say to her “Tell her to never come back so then I can be your mom” I know she’s joking and all but I don’t know. I find it somewhat odd and at times it makes me uncomfortable. Has anyone else’s mother done this?

Wanted to add for the ones asking if I’ve talked to her about it. I haven’t 😭 My mother is SUPER defensive so I honestly don’t even know how to go about it without it possibly turning into something it shouldn’t. 😭😭
