How did you choose your obgyn?

Just wondering if there was a specific reason why you chose your obgyn or what you look for when choosing a provider? 
It’s my first time to be connected to one (no kids yet but addressing irregular period). 
My pcp is going to give me a couple of different referrals in network but want to be able to choose one for long term.

I just went to whoever they scheduled me with.... but I asked for male. I will never do female Obgyn again unless I have literally no choice. I’m fine with female delivering if necessary lol

I chose mine based off of, in this order, 1st) surgical ability 2nd) likelihood of being the actual provider available at birth/other OBs at the practice being equally good 3rd) knowledge 4th) compassionate care 5th) location 6th) optionality of treatment 
My biggest fear with birth would be a botched c-section or emergency surgery. OBs aren’t trained like normal surgeons, so you need to pick a good one if you want to heal well.

Ill start by saying I am a nurse so I spend a lot of time around health care providers. And I under no circumstances wanted a male, I’m just not comfortable with it and truth be told I prefer to see a nurse practitioner/physician assistant/ midwife. (Usually midwife) they spend more time with you/seem slightly easier to talk to and I feel they are just as knowledgeable as physicians. I chose my current midwife as she was a recommendation of a friend and they did not disappoint!

I went with a specific midwife because I knew he offered ultrasounds whenever you wanted them. Lol. I ended up really liking the OB in the office so I stuck with her for baby #2. It helped that several of my friends recommended her.

My husband and I went to school with my OB’s kids but I didn’t know their dad was an OB. He’s a good family friend so we stuck with him

Weird but when researching one there were 30 at the hospital I wanted to deliver at she just looked caring I then looked up her reviews with were good.

My health insurance has an app with verified ratings for doctors. I asked around on fb and just got way overwhelmed. I ended up just asking my office who the newest doctor accepting patients was. I knew I didn’t want an older doctor just my preference.

I started with the hospital I wanted to deliver at, and then looked at their provider list (filtered them by gender and clinics) and literally read the bio for each provider until I found one that seemed like a match for me!

For me it was their personality, office, reviews, and birthing policies in the future as we knew we wanted kids. I didn't want to have all my prenatal appts with one doctor then have to use a random hospital ob so I chose out of only obs who delivered their patients babies. Had to try a few but eventually found the right one and she was probably the best doctor I have ever had in any part of medicine. I wanted a partner in health and that's what I found
