How much do you weigh name popularity in your decision? If you love a name but it’s top 20 would you still go for it?

It bothers me quite a bit. I don’t want my kid to have to be like Olivia R in her class because I picked a name knowing a million other kids would have it. I woundnt consider a name in the top 20 and would really need to LOVE a name for it to be in top 50.

Personally, no. My name isn’t top 20, but I think was top 30 the year I was born, and growing up there was always at least one other girl with my name, if not more. There were 3 of us consistently in the same class growing up and it would be annoying bc people would always be trying to nickname us so we had different names, and I don’t like most nicknames associated with my name. It always was like a competition as to who would actually get to be called by their name lol. In high school it was better and I played sports, so a lot of people just started calling me by my last name, or my soccer number lol. 
But for me in picking out a name for our kids, I didn’t want anything too common bc it was a constant annoyance for me growing up.

Name popularity doesn’t bother me, but i also tend to like more classic names and i feel like most trending names can be kinda out there for me.

Any time I see a popular name list I do vigorously scan for my top picks lol, but it wouldn't actually make me change my mind! My top boy pick is milo, and I see that on a good amount of lists, but I've never seen either of my girl names on any list so that makes me weirdly proud lmao!

I’m really picky when it comes to picking my kids names, and I am not big on sharing my kids names because I don’t want someone to snatch them! Lol 😂 I’m half Hawaiian and half Irish, and my hubs is mostly Irish, I also try and pick uncommon names that have very solid meanings. I named my son an Irish name, and then while he was in the nicu, one of the doctors told me that her son had the same name. Now my sons name is way common and it pisses me off! Lol, I try not to let it bug me, and when people come to me and say their kid has the same name, I’m polite and say “oh that’s so awesome, it’s a good name,” but inside I’m like “ugh so annoying 😒” I don’t know why I can’t just think “yup I have awesome names” and leave it at that! Anyone feel like this, or just because I am a brat? 😂

If I really loved it, I wouldn't care. If it's popular it means others have great taste. There are bigger things to worry about.

I personally prefer between top 50 to 100. I like names that people can identify and pronounce but aren’t the most popular. I always had at least 1 up to 3 other Jessica’s in my class. I’m try not to do that to my kids.

It doesn’t really bother me. 
My name was very uncommon growing up (Marcie). It did not make me feel special or unique. I could never find any products with my name on them when my friends would get keychains and stuff for fun. I honestly didn’t really like having a unique name. 
My husband on the other hand has a common, classic men’s name and it never bothered him being one of several people with the same name in his class. 
We chose a name for our older daughter that I had loved since I was a teen. It recently got quite popular but I didn’t mind that at all. It’s a beautiful name!

I feel like it would be easier for a kid growing up with a common name than a name that their parents made up so their kid was unique.
We picked names that we absolutely love for both our kids. One is pretty uncommon, 1 is consistently in the top 10, but we love them both so whether they were popular names or not didn’t bother us
