20 month old with cavities.

Katy

Hello! I was wondering if anyone else has been through this. My little one got his first top two teeth around 9 months. I noticed that they grew in with these white spots but didn’t think anything of it. By 11 months these spots turned brown. We took him to a few pediatric dentists and they all said this wqs decay but that he also had some kind of enamel deficiency which made the problem worse. Basically it was a perfect storm of things that made this all happen. I was also nursing on demand even at night. And even though I was wiping his teeth down this wasn’t enough to stop these events.

So they did an SDF treatment which is suppose to stop the decay and hopefully buy us enough time for him to be old enough to get them fixed or until they fall out on their own. The only problem is it turned the weakened enamel spots black. I’m ok with the cosmetic look as long as his teeth don’t get worse.

Now he’s 20 months old and I’m afraid that we will have to get them fixed soon and that he will have to go under general anesthesia. Has anyone else dealt with this? I feel a bit of mom guilt but after talking with the dentist and pediatrician it sounds like there really wasn’t much I could do. They told me that me also having a vitamin D deficiency at the beginning of my pregnancy was probably also a factor to his weak teeth.

Please let me know if you have had a little one go through any kind of dental surgery.
