I was with someone like that for four years, and those angry episodes became more common than those 'sweet' times. I finally couldn't take it anymore when he was an inch from my face screaming at the top of his lungs and I broke up with him that day. Couples need to learn to fight fair, which does not include personal insults, screaming and yelling, etc. Its fine to have disagreements, but you should be able to talk through it with insults getting hurled around and by hearing each other out. My husband and I never get into screaming matches or call each other names, we will hear each other out and then move on. It makes for a much healthier and happier relationship when you don't have to worry about your partner blowing up at any moment's notice. That can be detrimental to your self esteem and mental health.

Wouldn’t stay with him if he disrespected me when he was angry all the time. He could apologize and buy me flowers every single time, be the nicest human being besides this, and I’d still leave.

Was married to one. Divorced that shit. My daughter was 18months at the time. Biggest relief of my life. When I made my decision, there was no grieving the relationship. I only grieved the time I lost being so hurt, betrayed and severely depressed for as long as I was being with him. You have a choice. Don’t torture yourself by being accommodating to someone who destroys you any time he chooses. I would let him be dysfunctional on his own. And then do your own healing if your up for it.

I would discuss the issue and say that it needs to change. He may have some anger issues or mental health issues that he needs to deal with. If the behavior continued and he didn’t get any help for it then I would leave.

I really thought it was okay because he was only mean and did these things when he was out of state for work so I blamed it on stress.
