My brother 🤦‍♀️ Help!
I love him. He’s 11 years younger than me and I try my best to guide him. He’s a good kid, truly, but doesn’t make the best decisions.
He wants to be a music producer. I have tried to be more supportive of this, even though it feels unrealistic. He dropped out of his computer science program at the community college he attended after one semester, because he didn’t want to take the general education courses.
I’m the only one in my family who has a degree (I actually have my bachelor’s and master’s). I am trying to keep him on track and also keep him from making similar mistakes I made. I have 130k in student loans. 🤦‍♀️
He found this for-profit university in Florida called Full Sail. He can get a degree in “recording arts” there. I’ve looked into this “school” and am not impressed. It’s for-profit. It isn’t accredited. It has an acceptance rate of 100% and a graduation rate of 25%. The median income of someone ten years after attending the school is $39k. It’s like $40k a year to attend. There are no notable alumni I recognize.
He just got his first job at Subway. He’s never lived on his own. He says he has “people he works with” (from Instagram for his music) in Florida. They all recommend this school. Sigh.
There’s just no way he would survive so far from family, and I hate to see him go into debt for no reason.
How do I remain supportive but try to get him to be rational?
