Anyone uk based been told to shield?

Michelle

I’m 23+1 wks and opened a letter yesterday recommending that I shield until 31st March. I’ve checked the government website and none of the criteria to make someone extremely clinically vulnerable apply to me, apart from the last catch all that says your gp can class you as extremely clinically vulnerable if they think it’s appropriate. Other than having acid reflux and being a bit on the heavy side I don’t have any long term health issues. I’ve had my pregnancy classed as high risk as I’m 37 and had gestational diabetes during (managed by diet alone) and hypertension after my first pregnancy, but haven’t been told of any complications so far with baby number 2.

Not gonna lie this has left me feeling very stressed and quite deflated after looking forward to the lockdown restrictions easing over the next few weeks. If I were to do as the letter suggests I should only be leaving the house for medical appointments which would mean I’d have to stop taking my 4yr old to the park 😔 and I shouldn’t even be picking up my click and collect shop once a week.

Finally spoke to my gp this morning and he’s said that unless I get diagnosed with gestational diabetes this time around I don’t need to shield 😅

If your GP flagged you, I'd start there. Find out why they think you're so high risk and make a plan you can both live with. We're all so sick of COVID restrictions, but that doesn't mean the threat is any less real. If they truly believe you could have serious complications if you contact COVID, I'd take the shielding seriously.

Oh wow I haven’t received a letter about shielding and I’m in the uk. Tbh the parks have become very overcrowded and its best to stay away from crowded areas, especially since have of Briton don’t wear masks.
