How many IUIs before IVF?

I am on my 4th IUI cycle, with a review call with my Dr tomorrow. I’m nervous. We have unexplained fertility. I am curious at how many IUI cycles your doctors recommend before moving onto IVF? I never saw myself in this position, and makes me sad the Dr might say it’s time for IVF.

My doctor also recommended 3 IUI cycles before moving to IVF. I’m starting IUI cycle 2 today. I also never thought I would be in this position but here were are. We are also 38 years old so age is a factor.

My doctor initially recommended 3-4 IUI’s before moving on to IVF. We did three IUI’s which were all unsuccessful despite having 2-3 mature follicles and great sperm count. We decided to talk to the doctor again after that to see our options since we can’t afford IVF. He said we could do as many IUI’s as we wanted. We decided to take a break over the holidays and then figure out if we wanted to do more treatments or not. We found out in January that we were pregnant on our own. We were also unexplained infertility for 2 years and 7 months.

My doctor recommends three usually. But after my first one failed, I had surgery and they still found nothing wrong. Then after the second one failed I decide to move on. Which after the two failed IUIs and the results from my surgery, she recommended IVF to me.

My doctor likes to do 3 before IVF. Due to insurance mandates we had to do more. I was pretty intimidated at having to move on to IVF but am glad it will give us a better shot

We have only done one IUI but our doctor told us that he will only do three until discussing other options.
