For anyone who works in the public school system, do you get paid during the summer months when school’s out?

Just got a job in the public school system and I need to know this because I will not be spending the summer sitting in the house bumming around.

Depends on the district and the position. As a contracted teacher, I elect to have my salary paid out in 24 checks, so I am paid every two weeks all year. Some staff opt to be paid only during school months. Either way it’s the same salary just split up differently. Even though I am paid year round, I still work summer school for additional income.

You have a choice to have smaller paychecks so you get paid during summer and all year, or you can have bigger checks but not get paid during the summer. At least with my district.

I’m a teacher in WA. We’re only paid for the time that we work... so I’m not paid for summer break or any other time off. I have my salary divided into paychecks over 12 months so that my income is steady and predictable.

Not sure if it’s the same everywhere. At least in my district there is an option to be paid all year/summer too. Or you can choose to only be paid during the actual school year.

I’m salary based so I get a check in June but not July. I usually work summer school but I do have have to apply for it.
