Do cats always get fat after being spayed?

Question

We will be getting our cat fixed soon. She is itty bitty, full grown. My husband says she will get fat after being fixed, that all cats do. If that's true, she's just going to be a little kitty ball.
I'm jist curious. I have never had a cat before, so this is all new to me.

Not always. Sometimes cat can get a little far pooch that hangs from their bellies. I have a cat who has that and another that doesn't have that. When I started noticing I asked at the next vet visit that we had for her if that was okay or if she needs to go on a diet due to getting fat. They felt her belly and said it's just loose skin and not actually fat. I think every cat is different in that sense

My female cat stayed small after being spayed. I think it has a lot to do with diet and if they are generally energetic.

No, they turn fat by overfeeding them. And it is easy to overfeed, even if it looks like giving them barely any food to us (and they ask so nicely...)

My cat stayed small for a few years after she got spayed. She was spayed at 8 weeks. She’s 8 years old now and in the last year or two she’s gotten a little bigger. Growing up our female cats always got bigger after being spayed though.

I think it depends on the cat. My boy cat has always been fat lol, but I adopted him after he had already been neutered. My girl cat got spayed around 6 months old so she’s obviously gotten bigger, but she’s still really small. People are surprised when I tell them she’s not a kitten lol.

Neither of our cats are overweight - but they are both in and outdoor as they please and get food for sterilised cats.

My cat is fat as heck. 🤣 I'm trying to think back to when she started getting fat but I can't remember. I think it was after the surgery though.

Nope. My cat was always a little cat even after being spayed. But she's now like 10 years old and is now getting a bit chunky in her old age.
