Narrow pelvis, baby too big?

Marissa

Hello! Looking for some sisterly advice if anyone else has been in a similar situation.

A little background, I am 5’2”, currently 38 weeks + 5 days, and have gained just under 30 lbs total. This is my first pregnancy. I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes a couple months ago because I failed the glucose test at a reading of about 170. However, it has been well diet controlled since then.

This whole time my OB has been measuring baby to be slightly larger. I just went in for an ultrasound yesterday at 38+4 and they estimated about 8.5lbs right now. He then did a cervix check and nothing.... no effacement, no dilation. Baby’s head does not seem to be engaged at all and he also said I have a narrow pelvis. He explained all of these factors together may lead to a very difficult labor and I may end up needing a c-section. He also mentioned he will not let me go beyond 41 weeks.

My immediate reaction was heartbreak, and I didn’t ask as many questions as I was hoping. I left feeling really unsure about everything. I don’t even have another appointment set up to check again. So I guess I am just waiting to see if anything happens at this point?

Have any of you other ladies had this happen and delivered naturally? Does anyone have tips to help engage baby into my pelvis? Thank you!
